For the AAWB, a new era beckons.....
Greetings!
My name is Debs and I'm the Seamstress for the Average Weight Band. :-) I joined this
lovely bunch of Weight Watchers at the beginning of the year after finally giving in to their
pestenna and the fact that no one else tumed up for the audition
I've been involved in bands or duos, even choirs, for most of my life and performed with
amateur dramatic groups.
Biggest music regrets -
1. I never saw Queen live
2. Gary Barlow did not tum up to sing at my daughter's wedding, even though I wrote to request it and he only lives a few miles from the venue. Perhaps he was busy bottling his wine that night? His loss x
Musical tastes are wide and varied. I grew up listening to The Carpenters and Doris Day,
thereby learning how to sing harmonies and the lyrics to the soundtrack of "Calamity Jane".
I later listened closely to the Nolan Sisters' harmonies and pledged my heart to Donny
Osmond. Strong female singers influenced me - Lisa Stansfield, Gloria Estefan, Lucie
Silvas, Alison Moyet, Margarita Pracatan, Miss Piggy ....the list goes on.
I missed the likes of the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac in their heyday but have a strong
appreciation of them today.
We needed to search our souls as Debra clearly does not sport comfort layering in the body department and there was the potential to seek a new band identity. But on balance, we all weighed in with an answer, and we're still above average. A feat Debs is helping us maintain with the odd provision of cakes.... I mean band practice and cake, it's a winning combination and an evolution of just beer.....
Here's where Debs excels (apart from the singing, organisation, well typed lyric sheets etc), used in the past to prodding and poking folk and now writing about them, there is many a moment of hilarity with a quick witty repartee that absolutely fits the band demeanour. Oh and a wicked tambo hand and an electric Ukulele is regularly played, at present unwilling to share that Ukulele skill but soon people soon we will I am sure manage that religion before it's lost.....
